Weeds Season 4 has got new faces and new places and changes that Weeds creator Jenji Kohan has termed as “Reinvigorating for everyone” involved in the creative process of the show.

For those who are unfamiliar with the show, It is a Showtime Original Production that began airing in August, 2005 on the Premium Network. The premise is that a widowed housewife, Mary-Louise Parker, from an affluent California suburb becomes an upper-middle-class marijuana dealer to make ends meet and finds her life has very interesting dynamics as a result of the “Career” change.

Weeds Season 4 starts where Season 3 left off with Nancy relocating her family to fictional Ren Mar, a town located on the San Diego and Tijuana border after burning her house down in LA. Giving the show a new location allowed for new characters to be brought in as well as ending relationships with old ones. Gone are Mary-Kate Olsen and Matthew Modine who appeared later in the series and Romary Malco and Tonye Patano, who had pivotal roles in the first three seasons. Added to the cast are Albert Brooks who plays Andy’s father, Lenny Botwin. Additionally, Guillermo Diaz and Jack Stehlin who appeared as minor characters have been given more face-time on the hit Showtime series.

The change of location gives Nancy the ability to begin large scale drug trafficking across the border for Guillermo and finds herself dealing with Celia (portrayed by Elizabeth Perkins), who has struck a deal to spy on Nancy to keep herself from the Big House.

Along with the change in location comes a new crop, no pun intended, of troubles including Andy’s (portrayed by Justin Kirk) Coyote business with Doug (portrayed by Kevin Nealon), who has his own problems; Silas (portrayed by Hunter Parrish) setting up his own weed business and Shane’s (portrayed by Alexander Gould) plunge into unknown territory when he meets two new girls at his new school. As the season progresses, Nancy is convinced to run a maternity shop that harbors a tunnel that goes to Mexico that is used to facilitate drug trafficking. Nancy discovers that the tunnel is being used for far more nefarious deeds which has her turning to the DEA for help and catching her in a very complicated situation by season’s end.
